Janet Cullen

Janet is an academic, educationalist, coach and mentor always striving for the next challenge.  

After graduating with a degree in Modern French Studies from Dundee University, she continued to pursue academic and personal development having secured a further degree in English Literature, and an MBA in Educational Leadership. She is a National Leader of Education, a PiXL Associate, and has trained as an Ofsted Inspector. Her next goal is to achieve a doctorate in education.

She is resolutely passionate about making a difference to the life chances of young people through education.

Janet’s career has taken her from teaching and senior leadership roles across the country to fact-finding missions internationally; researching charter schools in the USA, rural and urban schools in Australia, and developing sporting links with schools in Manila in the Philippines and Antalya in Turkey. She has also hosted and delivered at international conferences. Her depth of experience supporting school improvement across the phases - primary, secondary and post-16 - makes her a strong, sought-after mentor and coach.

Her next goal is to achieve a doctorate in education.

She is resolutely passionate about making a difference to the life chances of young people through education. Her depth and breadth of experience and knowledge – understanding people and challenging environments – ensures she is impacting positively on the professional lives of other school leaders, bringing innovative approaches to the curriculum and, in partnership, making improvements to pupil outcomes. Janet is passionate about the development of the next generation of leaders and working with schools to secure succession planning.Janet was one of the youngest female headteachers in the country overseeing a mixed comprehensive school in Greater London. She has worked on the well-renowned Government’s London Challenge programme - supporting schools in Somerset; mentored newly appointed headteachers locally and through the Talented Leaders programme and as an NLE she has overseen the improvement of a local school from an Ofsted inadequate judgement. Janet is also a governor of a special school in north London.

Her role as CEO, Trustee and Accounting Officer for Cedars Learning Trust will involve strategic leadership of the Trust, overall responsibility for leadership, governance and all staff, whilst being accountable to the Board of Trustees.
